![]() Collecting artifacts is exciting in the beginning, but as the game goes on, the odds of finding or repairing artifacts become a "hassle" according to PC Invasion. The heavy RNG that comes with artifacts is another issue here. A large aspect of CK3 is starting as a small count or duke and working up to emperor, so adding a feature that's only accessible to higher ranks is "satisfying for some players," but it also incentivizes skipping over smaller rulers and jumping straight to kingdom or empire-rank titles. This is in part because the court is inaccessible to tribal rulers and rulers under king rank, making "smaller rulers feel somewhat lackluster," according to Jack Trumbull of War Gamer. While it does extend CK3's gameplay loop, it doesn't quite fulfill the requirements for a full and satisfying 586-year game. Having a court jester gives access to funny prank events (such as your heir having to go in the nude due to clothing theft), and having a cup-bearer can stop an enemy from poisoning a character.Īside from cultures, Royal Court doesn't add much in terms of the long game. There are also events relating to the new free feature of minor court titles. Having a warlike court results in more duels, violent conflicts and arguments than a scholarly court, for example. These events can vary depending on court grandeur, character traits, culture and other aspects of a game. As such, it's an interesting feature at first, but it becomes "tiresome and repetitive" according to Jason Rodriguez of PC Invasion.Īside from these complaints, however, the court system does add a lot of flavor and fun interactions. They're something you deal with once when your children reach a certain age, then never deal with again unless you need an opinion boost but don't have money or artifacts to gift. Having a popular court language (such as Arabic or High German) gives a boost to grandeur and lessens the effect of negative cultural modifiers, but otherwise, there's nothing there to interact with. Critics also found court languages to be an underdeveloped concept.
